The Pegasus Spyware what we know so far is a zero click attack based spyware. Which means hackers can hack your phone even if you don’t click any malicious link or malicious button or download any malicious app or visit any malicious web page or even receive any malicious phone call (Such as a malicious WhatsApp call ).
So at this point you can only protect your phone from getting hacked is always keeping it disconnected from the internet.
But keeping your phone disconnected from the internet all the time is not a full proof solution. And of course there is no other way. In this case you can only decrease the chances of getting hacked by such spyware attacks. As the regular security measures won’t work against these zero click attacks, you can do the following to at least stay safe from losing your personal data in the hands of the hackers—
***The first thing you should do is do a hard reset or a complete data wipe of your smartphone. *** If you don’t know but ow to do that or you don’t want to do a complete data wipe then you should do the following—
1. First completely log out of your social media accounts, google, apple account and every account that is present in your phone.
2. And don’t use your regular smartphone to do anything with those accounts. Like logging into your iCloud, Google drive, Facebook, Whatsapp and so on.
3. Delete all the contacts.
4. Remove everything from your phone leading to the utter world of the internet or your friends and family.
5. Remove your identity from that phone and any remaining data leading to you or the people you know.
6. Then clean all the data of your apps from the settings. This will basically make the apps like they were just fresh installed on the phone. It will be better if you just uninstall and then install again your necessary apps.
7. **Finally, this is the most important step**. Always use another device or phone to do your daily tasks like accessing your google drive or similar. But always log out of them after use. And perform the regular methods of protecting yourself from hackers on this device.
8. And the previous phone will be a dummy. You can do some stuff which basically don’t require your identity like gaming. In case someone wants to attack you with the Pegasus spyware he will be attacking the old phone which you just cleaned.
**Finally, always perform the regular methods to protect yourself from hackers. **Some of them are as follows—
1. Always verify any link before clicking it even it came from your very close friend or relative. Cause that person might get hacked before you and the hackers trying get to you pretending to be your close ones.
2. Always download apps from official app stores. Like Google Playstore and Apple App Store.
3. Don’t download any app even from the official app store if the app just came in the market or recently launched. Cause it might have potential bugs or even worse a malware itself.
4. Always keep your webcam hidden. Use a webcam cover or just cover it a black tape.
5. If there is any email or sms asking you to login or verify your social media account or your bank account. Then rather clicking on the link manually visit the website on your own by manually typing the website’s address or from the official app. It’s always better to login on another device if you face these situations.
6. Don’t trust any phone call saying its from some call center(such as your bank) if it asks for any sort of number, digits, your email, something favorite(such as your favorite football team), your birthday and so on.
So, these are the basic rules you can follow o keep yourself and your family and friends safe. **Remember, there is no full proof way to prevent getting hacked unless “You” stay alert.**
